2012! Happy New Year!
So here we are - at the beginning of a year, which according to the discussions of the last few years is supposed to be End of the World of some kind.
Where did it all start? The Maya Calender, of course. Sadly, predictions about doomsday in December 2012 are a great misinterpretation of the time structure of the Maya. Their calender was differently composed than the Gregorian calender we use. One way to keep track of huge fragments of time was The Long Count. Simplified and compared to what we know: 1 day is a K'in, 1 month are 20 K'in, 1 year - 360 K'in. This was followed by 1 B'ak'tun or approximately 394 years. Just as each entry in a new millennium is a reason for great celebration for us, the beginning of a new B'ak'tun was a special and happy moment for the Maya. December 21, 2012 is simply the beginning of the 14th B'ak'tun.
Taking these facts into consideration, I guess, people started a new way of thinking about this day - not so much as an Apocalypse, but more like a new beginning. Mixed emotions of fear of what may be coming soon and hope that it would bring some peace and harmony to our somewhat chaotic world would take us through this year.
If I should predict any changes that will come, then I would assume that many people driven by their wild emotions, hoping for or fearing a change in their lives, will be the ones to make the drift in our history happen. The question is, which way would you take? Living your life as though these are your last days - with no plans for the future, taking no care of the nature, spending your money and time only on entertainment...? Or would you take the other path - looking inside your own heart and mind and trying to be a better person and to give your small amount of harmony to the world, believing it would be soon reborn?
Frankly, I guess for many it would be just the next year to come. So with hope for a healthy and successful year, full of joy and happiness, of shared love and true friendships, of beauty and chime, Happy New Year, everyone! (:

Съмнявам се, че точно страхът от краят би подтикнал хората към добро. По-скоро осъзнаването, че ако продължаваме все повече да рушим и по-малко да градим ще доведем сами света до този "край", би променило психиката ни.
